# Cline

> Connect AnyAPI as a built-in provider in Cline for VS Code

# AnyAPI Plugin for Cline

[Cline](https://github.com/cline/cline) is an autonomous AI coding assistant for VS Code. AnyAPI is listed as a selectable provider under Cline's **Bring Your Own Provider** option — pick it from the list instead of configuring a generic OpenAI-compatible endpoint by hand.

## Installation

**1. Open Cline settings**

Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the Cline panel.

**2. Choose Bring Your Own Provider**

Select **Bring Your Own Provider** from the provider options.

**3. Pick AnyAPI**

Choose **AnyAPI** from the provider list.

**4. Paste your API key**

Get a key from [API Keys](https://dash.anyapi.ai/?page=api-keys) in the AnyAPI Dashboard and paste it in.

That's it — models are listed for you automatically, no base URL or model ID to type in.

## Recommended Models for Coding

| Model | Best for |
| - | - |
| `anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6` | Fast edits, everyday coding |
| `anthropic/claude-opus-4.6` | Complex architecture, deep reasoning |
| `openai/gpt-4o` | Multi-modal, broad knowledge |
| `deepseek/deepseek-r1` | Algorithms, math |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Don't see **AnyAPI** in the provider list? Your Cline version may predate the built-in option. Use the manual [OpenAI Compatible setup](https://docs.anyapi.ai/use-cases/cline) instead — it works with any Cline version.

## Troubleshooting

> **AnyAPI not in the provider list**
>
> Update the Cline extension to the latest version (`Ctrl+Shift+X` → Cline → Update), or fall back to the manual [OpenAI Compatible setup](https://docs.anyapi.ai/use-cases/cline).

> **Authentication failed**
>
> Verify your key is active at [dash.anyapi.ai](https://dash.anyapi.ai) and re-paste it in Cline's provider settings.

> **No models shown**
>
> Cline fetches the catalog live from AnyAPI. Check your network connection and that the key has credits, then reopen the provider settings.
